Statement
The global village has united the world through news, popular culture, and personal ritual. In a historical context, Folk and outsider artists have been known for their unique and raw application as well as representational symbolism. Along with all of this, in modern times, cultural traditions have been rapidly melting into a cacophony of matter and a clutter of accelerating information. As a result we have pulled away from the immediate experience, our intuition, and connection.
The beloved folklore of our past has become reduced to a style outside the scarce few un-westernized indigenous populations left in this modern era, although, the spirit of folklore has never left us because it resides within the human soul.
Throughout my narrative paintings, installation, and communal gatherings, I aim to connect with the individual and allow the viewer to take their own experience as a response, as opposed to telling the viewer what to see, feel, or understand. My goal is to awaken and heighten universal conciousness within the viewer through various modes of engaging the senses.
Rituals are inescapable for the modern American. Even those of us who claim to be devoid of Spiritual devotion, devote themselves to an otherness in some shape or form. We praise our inspirations, we take sacrament with our religiously visited loved ones, and we sacrifice for the progression of what we believe in. In the end, we do all of these things to assist our personal consciousness in order to create a wellspring of strength, presence, and power within our communities.
The heap of the objects that represent our existence can become either an altar for healing, or a landfill of destruction. Although inconsistent at times, we essentially pave the path to live life fruitfully. Through my work I hope to promote personal reflection of what our life constitutes and a connection to the human soul. I strive to influence and create an experience for the viewer to live and manifest energetic life sources, and make life a loving and healing water.
